Those of us who are about to enter a pressurized aluminum tube with 200 other Americans and travel 30,000 feet above the United States at 500 mph (on a five-hour cross country flight, ugh) think that masks are a really good idea even if we are triple vaxxed and had natural immunity by having experienced breakthrough Delta. We would prefer

Speaking of Delta, the CEOs of America’s major airlines testified before Congress yesterday about the necessity of masks. Congress might have been better off inviting coaches from America’s NFL football teams to testify since many of them are missing quarterbacks and coaches at the most important point of the year. But they had airline CEOs instead, and they – too, are an excellent choice.

Gary Kelly is CEO of Southwest Airlines, one of the most successful companies in the country. Kelly questioned whether masks really were necessary on flights.

It is a great question and we are happy to answer for him. No, they are not necessary, so long as everyone passes a rapid exam, just prior to getting on the flight, and shows proof of vaccinations, plus a booster for those over 18. The moment it becomes law, we agree, no one needs masks. See how much life easier would be if people just listened to President Biden and Dr. Fauci?

We could literally have 85-90% of the country vaccinated and COVID of all types on the run. Instead, we have maybe 60% of the country vaccinated, some areas have less than 40% and thus we’re debating masks. Gary Kelly thought they weren’t necessary, even after coughing his way through the hearing.

After testifying for over 3 hours in a Senate hearing where he suggested masks may not be necessary on flights, Southwest CEO Gary Kelly tested positive for covid. Sitting with him were CEOs of Delta, United, American, and Pres of Flight Attend. Here he is.

Cough. Cough. How could he possibly have gotten COVID? Perhaps he didn’t think it was all that important. Cough.

We hope that he’s vaccinated and pulls through this with mild symptoms. We also hope that he considers maskless flights. Just like some hotels have smoking versus non-smoking rooms. Perhaps there could be mask versus non-mask flights. Everyone vaxxed up and tested, onboard ready to sing. Everyone else, get aboard the cough express.
