It was just three days ago that Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland announced during the Committee’s hearing on holding Mark Meadows in contempt that Meadows had voluntarily handed over a shocking text from a “representative” to Meadows, sent just hours after the polls were closing.

The text was garbled, and Raskin got the official position of the sender wrong, but the text did go to show just how soon the MAGAs and Trump understood they knew they were in trouble once all the votes were being counted and how soon they were willing to do an end-run around the Constitution.

They preferred the counts as the polls closed. They thought they won the poll count and probably had but that was never the full story and Trump’s lawyers warned him going into the election that mail-in votes would be counted later in the evening and they would heavily lean Democratic because Democrats knew better than to go out into COVID-infested America.

The general idea, as summed up by Mediaite, was to every “problematic state” (the ones Trump lost by a small margin due to counting all the mail-in ballots:

The idea was for states with GOP-controlled legislatures to simply send their preferred slate of electors to cast their ballots for Trump in the Electoral College. Perry indicated his belief that a legal challenge to the plan could ultimately land before the conservative-dominated U.S. Supreme Court.

Perry is not known to be a rocket surgeon and the text actually read:

HERE’s an AGRESSIVE [sic] STRATEGY Why can t [sic] the states of GA NC PENN and other R controlled state houses declares this is BS (where conflicts and election not called that night and just send their own electors to vote and have it go to the SCOTUS.

Should Kamala Harris Run for President in 2028?

Though Raskin made an honest mistake in saying that the text was authored by a U.S. Representative it is significantly worse coming from Perry because Perry had served inside the Trump administration cabinet as Energy Secretary, and not an “acting” one, either, as the rest seem to have been. From 2017 to 2019, Perry served in the cabinet.

Given, Perry was not in the cabinet at the time of the election, but might have been involved in the campaign and was already thinking of ways around a “loss” (there is no other word for it.)

As Mitch McConnell says, there is a real need to get to the bottom of what happened during the post-election period. They were starting to think of unconstitutional means to stay in office within hours of the polls closing.
