We as a staff hate writing these, but we hope against hope that they end up doing some good.

Some on the left get some kind of perverted joy out of them or at least make jokes about evolution (we make jokes about evolution as policy, not individual deaths), but we’ve found that once one starts taking any sort of “joy” or a smirk about voters about another’s demise, one loses a bit of their own humanity. We feel the need to cite that policy during every single one of these because they’re going to become more common. We absolutely do claim the right to be angry.

We should also mention that yours truly, the one at the keyboard writing this – as almost always – also has COVID, right now, despite the fact that I was vaccinated as soon as it was available. Even vaccinated, this disease is not even slightly “mild,” at least not for some, it is like serious flu, at least for some. There is no point in rolling the dice.

Solicitor Leslie Lawrenson, 58, from the U.K. died in June, proving politics and stubbornness are only concentrated in the U.S., not confined to the U.S. Lawrenson stands out a bit because upon hearing he had COVID he was glad, he wanted to prove it was nothing. The fact that he passed in June and we’re only hearing now proves that sometimes Facebook videos are difficult to find, if there are few followers: From the Evening Standard:

An anti-vaxxer who filmed himself downplaying Covid-19 before posting it on Facebook has died of the virus. Lawrenson died at his home in Bournemouth, Dorset, nine days after he published a video on why coronavirus was “nothing to be afraid of.”

Mr Lawrenson, who reportedly had no underlying health conditions, had previously refused to take up the vaccine because he felt he “did not need it.” The 58-year-old recorded two vlogs in June, where he explained his symptoms and described them as “no worse than a cold.”

As his condition worsened, Mr Lawrenson struggled to breath and said he felt pain “everywhere”, but stated he did not feel like he was in any real “danger.” “I didn’t get the point where I would have had to be hospitalised,” he said. “Things did get worse, but I am glad I got Covid-19.”

He died in his home, likely convinced that he couldn’t possibly die of something as mild as COVID. In one way, I share something with Mr. Lawrence. Having been vaccinated, with the Pfizer vaccine, with no pre-conditions below the brain, I couldn’t have conceived of getting this sick.

Do. Not. Play. with this disease, even if you’re vaxxed. Keep your distance, pretend a vaccine doesn’t exist until we have serious herd immunity.
