Given that everything in the U.S. is political now, it shouldn’t surprise any of us (and yet it does, somehow) that many on the right are cheering for the U.S. to lose, at least in some sports deemed too “woke” or too “liberal” for their tastes. It is similar to the way that some on the right have criticized our military’s approach with respect to being inclusive of our entire American family. One wonders if these people would cheer against our military, too. We hope we never find out whether “our” military battles “their” military.

Regardless, during Trump’s rally on Saturday, he cheered our U.S. Women’s soccer team loss, and on Tuesday night, it was Grant Stinchfield’s turn to gush over the U.S. Basketball team’s shocking loss to France.

“Well folks, it’s not often that I’m happy a U.S. team loses and the Olympics,” he exclaimed. “It makes me sad to say it, but I found myself rooting against not just Megan Rapinoe and her merry band of America-hating female soccer players… But I took pleasure in the men’s basketball Team USA’s first team loss since 2004.”

Stinchfield continued: “Yes, Team USA suffering an embarrassing loss to France, 83-76. The collection of whiny overpaid social justice warriors are very hard to root for. The team is filled with anthem-kneelers, and I find it ironic they are willing to put USA across their chests but in the not-so-distant past, they would kneel for the anthem.

Stinchfield suggested that someone go rip the “U.S.A.” logo off their chest. Apparently, these athletes aren’t fit to wear Stinchfield’s “U.S.A.”

Given that on Tuesday we are going to hear from Gohmert, Gaetz, Gosar, and others about the “horrible mistreatment” of rioters still jailed awaiting trial, it would be informative to see how Stinchfield might react as to the national anthem and “U.S.A.” on his chest if the police were universally black men and women who targeted white men, hunting white men, and talking about the need to put more white men in prison. Would that Stinchfield would be somewhat sympathetic to those simply kneeling during the national anthem. The MAGA congressional reps are upset that some rioters who hurt cops are still in jail.

Regardless, there used to be a saying, politics stopped on the water’s edge. How quaint. Stinchfield isn’t under some obligation to “like” the fact that some athletes kneel during the national anthem, but cheering against his own country for political reasons? It just goes to prove that he doesn’t consider people who disagree with him as being part of this, or his country, the only one fit to wear the “U.S.A.” logo. This is the type of attitude that results in attempted coups and threats of secession. We suppose it shouldn’t be surprising at all.
