Stephen King knows that MAGAs buy books too… (We are so very tempted to make a joke here. But it would make us sound like dicks and a bit mean, and too easy. So we won’t), thus when King comments about how stupid the MAGAs can be, he has to know that he is costing himself money.
Granted, Stephen King is the richest author to ever live, but he’s working as hard as he ever has (Writers must write, a day without writing feels like a day wasted). Additionally, believe it or not, every writer knows that it is a privilege to have any single reader take in your writing and thoughts. It never goes away, a single reader gives up time to hear someone from someone else, it’s a privilege.
Thus King takes risks every time he tweets out something. He offends potential readers. Additionally, because Stephen King is such a good writer, he can pack more punch and information into a tweet than anyone else in the world and he does so on a regular basis. He has also proven that he’s given the country’s current condition a lot of thought and it pains him to see it go through all this.
King put out a tweet today that the president of the United States should say but probably can’t. Joe Biden is having enough trouble getting people to vaccinate themselves. Directly insulting the people who refuse to vaccinate themselves is not a way… but the truth matters, too, and King knows it and wants people to hear it: PLAINLY
Maine is being hammered by COVID. It’s most -prevalent in areas where there are large numbers of unvaccinated people.
What’s it going to take to convince you guys?— Stephen King (@StephenKing) December 17, 2021
The same could be said for entire states? In some ways, he’s giving the MAGAs more respect than others do. He isn’t mocking them, he’s not saying they’re too stupid. He is saying “Here is the evidence, how could you possibly need more!”
We know. It is not a matter of information. It is a political statement. They have been told to get vaccinated. “No!” That’s why they are MAGAs, Trump gave them permission to do whatever they wanted and that means when someone tells them what to do, they get to say “No!”
