It apparently wasn’t sufficient for Donald Trump to call retired 4-star General Colin Powell a “classic RINO” the same day news broke of his passing.

Trump had to further dishonor the former Secretary of State by refusing to attend his funeral. The ceremony saw President Joe Biden, Powell’s predecessor Madeleine Albright, his deputy Richard Armitage from the State Department, and countless others in attendance.

Trump’s absence was notable.

Aside from his closest friends, the attendees included the Obamas, George W. Bush and his wife Laura, Hillary Clinton, Dick and Lynne Cheney, and a host of Powell’s former associates in both the military and in public office at State.

All who spoke of Powell at the ceremony did so in reverential tones. Powell was a born diplomat, although many criticized him after the fact for his role in leading the US into the Iraq War.

It’s no wonder that Trump was not in attendance; he is generally either not invited to such events or simply refuses to go. He has little in common with even people from his own side of the political aisle when it comes to personal life, and most wisely choose not to be associated with him to begin with.

Although his absence was apparent, it was also apparent that he wasn’t missed.
