Republican Sen. Mike Rounds (South Dakota) is now on Donald Trump’s sh*t list after he had the temerity on Sunday to say the 2020 presidential election was fair. His remarks won a snippy statement from the former president Monday.
“‘Senator’ Mike Rounds just went ‘woke’ on the Fraudulent Presidential Election of 2020,” Trump retorted.
He chided Rounds for his remarks and once again, baselessly claimed that there’s “evidence to the contrary” in Wisconsin, Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
“Is he crazy or just stupid,” Trump said, and added: “The only reason he did this is because he got my endorsement and easily won his state in 2020, so now he thinks he has time, and those are the only ones, the weak, who will break away. Even though his election will not be coming up for five years, I will never endorse this jerk again.”
Well, I have a question myself: What the hell is wrong with Donald Trump? As The New York Times reported back in October 2021, each and every one of the claims died in court without so much as a fare thee well. He keeps doing this, it keeps blowing up in his face. He can call Rounds a “jerk” however often he wants but it sure looks like someone is not looking in the mirror.
And our dear old former president went on to complain about “Democrat-run cities” and geopolitical conflicts across the world. Then he concluded: “He [Rounds] is a weak and ineffective leader, and I hereby firmly pledge that he will never receive my Endorsement again.”
Like I said, does this man EVER look in the mirror?
NEW!
President Donald J. Trump:

In an appearance on ABC’s This Week, Rounds, who voted to certify Biden’s win — confirmed that the vote was indeed valid.
“The election was fair, as fair as we’ve seen,” he said. “We simply did not win the election, as Republicans for the presidency.”
But that’s probably not the only thing Rounds said that gets under Trump’s skin. The second-term lawmaker also said Trump’s continual focus on the 2020 presidential election may scupper Republicans’ chances in the future.
“Moving forward, we have to refocus once again on what it’s going to take to win the presidency,” Rounds added. “And if we simply look back and tell our people don’t vote because there’s cheating going on, then we’re going to put ourselves at a huge disadvantage.”
“As a part of our due diligence, we looked at over 60 different accusations made in multiple states…The election was fair, as fair as we've seen. We simply did not win the election, as Republicans, for the presidency,” GOP Sen. Mike Rounds says. https://t.co/ANIQaIEzzo pic.twitter.com/DY2PW2d3qs

But there was something else on Rounds’ mind. He doesn’t believe the legal system is done with Trump yet. At one point ABC’s George Stephanopoulos asked him about a hypothetical law that would bar Trump from running again. That potential law is predicated on the idea that Trump violated his oath of office by supporting, heck, encouraging the deadly Capitol riot. Fortunately, the Democrats are looking into this, and let’s hope it proves fruitful.
“The courts are the appropriate place where those questions should be answered,” Rounds told Stephanopoulos.

Rounds has called the attack on the Capitol an insurrection in an interview with the West Central Tribune.
“In my opinion, what we had was an insurrection,” Rounds said. “We had violence. We had people killed. We had a mob that ignored direct commands. They attacked law enforcement officers. They damaged federal property. They clearly intended to stop us from performing our duties in the recognition of the electoral vote count.”
Here’s a guy who’s plain-spoken. And every word he says is true. Rounds may be one of the few Republicans I could start to like.
