As of right now, there are three primary types of COVID, though only one is really around, and we’ve run through them almost exclusively as each came up. As everyone knows there was the original COVID, call it COVID “Proper,” if you will.
The vaccine did a fantastic job of keeping people from getting sick at all, and was near perfect with respect to the hospital, especially ICU, and it basically precluded death.
Then came Delta, an entirely different animal, so to speak. Delta was more contagious, but more concerningly, it was stronger, a lot stronger. It busted through Pfizer’s vaccine a little more easily than Moderna’s. It hit younger people, the unvaccinated. And if you got it, even if you were vaccinated, you could get pretty sick, but not hospital sick. Some of us went through it. Delta hit the unvaxed so hard that Idaho went to rationed care, Mississippi called itself a failed state, Miami was in the exact same position, just more hospitals in the state.
Now, it’s Omicron’s turn. Omicron is so much more contagious than the other two it’s just flat rude. It seems like being outside does nothing to this thing, nor does standing 10 feet away. Thankfully, it is less serious in terms of sickness than the other two. It seems like a good time to remind people that there was no rule that Omicron needed to be less deadly. It could have been three times as contagious and five times more deadly. That’s what happens when one rolls the dice and viruses mutate. That’s why it was critical to jump on COVID proper fast fast fast and have less virus around to mutate.
The one dependable thing with all of them? Vaxxed and boosted people didn’t die, the very very very few that did usually had other complications. Few were in the ICU, all that.
In other words, we have gone through three phases of COVID, each distinct, at times with COVID Proper and COVID Delta, it seemed like our health system would collapse.
Doctors in ICUs started calling this a disease of the unvaccinated because everyone in the ICU was unvaccinated. It is easy – very easy – to recall when the vaccines came out, they started that the vaccine had incredible success in keeping people from getting sick, but much more success in keeping people out of the hospital and alive.
That was COVID Proper. Delta (because of the ICUs) became known as a disease of the unvaccinated. Omicron is infecting everyone so it’s tough to tell who is vaccinated, who isn’t, all we know is that the people in the ICU remain unvaccinated.
None of this is difficult to understand. None of it. And yet Peter Doocy, never one to care if he looks stupid or not, asked “the” question, the one that got him shamed by Jen Psaki. Unlike most Psaki mow-downs, any single one of us could have nailed Doocy to the wall with this one. After all, we all just did above. Everyone knows it.
Fox News’ Doocy: “I’m triple-vaxed … You’re triple-vaxed, still got COVID. Why is the president still referring to this as a pandemic of the unvaccinated?”
WH Press Sec. Psaki: “You are 17x more likely to go to the hospital if you’re unvaccinated, 20x more likely to die.” pic.twitter.com/hPcxWGCdfX

Depends all on how you define “sick,” Peter. “Testing positive” for Omicron is not “sick,” you stupid ffff. Some are home in bed with a fever and the sniffles. Some who aren’t vaccinated are in the ICU intubated and the family terrified. Go ahead, take your best shot, buddy, even though you’re lucky enough to be doubled and boosted… and know it.
