There is only one witness that would be more valuable to the Select Committee than Mike Pence and that witness is not coming, not without a subpoena fought to the SCOTUS, and he wouldn’t do much more than sit there and plead the 5th Amendment.

No, unless one got Trump in a chair with some truth serum, the single best witness that the Select Committee could hope to question would be Mike Pence.

The Committee requested that Pence come speak to them voluntarily. Alyssa Farah Griffin, who has been right about quite a few things lately, and is a former Pence assistant, predicts that Pence will testify in front of the committee, though he will want to be subpoenaed, rather than simply come over by request:

Griffin appeared on CNN Saturday and was asked about whether Pence would cooperate in any way:

“Knowing him and having worked with him for several years, I anticipate that he’ll cooperate with the committee in some capacity/ However, this is an important distinction — this is a voluntary request. His former chief of staff, Marc Short, agreed to cooperate with the committee when he was subpoenaed.”

It is probably good to keep in mind that Short is as angry (or at least was as angry) at Trump as anyone on Earth, the way Trump left his boss out to hang in the wind. It will be interesting to hear Short’s testimony align with Pence’s.

“If there’s something you should know about Pence world, it’s that they are by-the-book kind of instituionalists by nature.”

We have every reason to believe he would or we’d perhaps be dealing with a president Trump right now.

So I think that if he were to receive a subpoena, he would absolutely comply. He believes in the oversight role that Congress has on the executive branch. I’m a little more skeptical that he would (cooperate) in a volunteer capacity.

“Were he to go in in a voluntary capacity, I think it could be perceived as he was trying to help the committee. I think he wants to do what he’s obligated to under the Constitution, contribute to the oversight role, but I think they’re more likely to get information from him with a subpoena.”

That sounds entirely like the Mike Pence that followed the Constitution despite Trump’s roar. Imagine the questions that the Committee could ask Pence? And just imagine some of the answers he might be able to give.
