Whether one’s a writer, a lawyer, whatever, one learns to parse the exact wording someone uses very carefully, especially when the answers are on paper, which – given the question Jen Psaki answered today, it surely was until she read it from the podium of the White House.
This White House is different than the last. This White House seems to understand that you cannot just send someone out there to wing it and deliver campaign points – as Kayleigh did. Important Americans watch the daily press briefings. At least as importantly, intelligence agencies around the world watch American White House press briefings and they definitely parse wording and mannerisms because a lot of intelligence can be picked up if one looks at things very very closely.
The entire world is wondering whether the Biden administration has the guts to prosecute the top players in the insurrection. We had every reason to believe nothing was happening from DOJ and still haven’t heard much from DOJ. We have heard a lot from the Committee and know it has every intention of referring all crimes it finds to the DOJ.
So, literally, the entire world wants to know what the Biden administration thinks about whether it has the will to prosecute Trump administration officials if it comes down to it.
Today, Psaki was asked whether Trump acted “normally” last January (Of course, not. First president in memory who didn’t attend the successor’s swearing-in? That right there is not “normal.”) And she was asked whether Biden represents a threat to Democracy. The wording of her answer is worth one’s attention:
President Trump’s role in subverting our constitution, attempting to block the peaceful transfer of power, and defending a mob that attacked our Capitol and law enforcement has been well documented…

Filing lawsuits and motions is not an attempt to block the “peaceful” transfer of power, court proceedings are peaceful. Filing lawsuits is an attempt to block the Constitutional transfer of power. Attempting to block the peaceful transfer of power… requires violence. She put it on Trump.
Remember, she had to know questions like this were coming and had to have it written out beforehand. She didn’t say Trump “allowed” others to attempt to block the peaceful transfer of power. She said “he,” Trump, attempted to block the peaceful transfer of power, and thus perhaps was part of that non-peaceful event.
Maybe we’re paying closer attention to the wording than the White House. If so, that’s an issue. But given that we’re likely not, Jen might’ve been delivering a message to those around the world that know they should parse every single word because the White House believes that Trump was “in” on the violent attempt to block Congress.
