Donald Trump recently appeared on the Daily Wire, where he was interviewed by Candace Owens, and the two spent the majority of the time pushing false claims and conspiracy theories about the January 6th Capitol riot. In the interview, Owens said to Trump, “We’re seeing Tucker Carlson, Joe Rogan start to show that the FBI had some involvement on Jan. 6, were urging supporters to go toward the Capitol building.”
The idea she is talking about originates from a documentary that was released in November called “Patriot Purge”, where Carlson and others make the claim that the FBI helped create the riot on purpose as an excuse to demonize and target Trump supporters. Trump agreed with this idea, telling Carlson that, “I’ve been watching it very closely and a lot of people are being treated very unfairly.”
Many Trump supporters, including Tucker Carlson, have been unhappy with Trump despite his verbal backing of the republicans involved in the insurrection, as they believe he should be more actively and publicly supporting them, and even giving to them financially. Trump, however, did back them in the interview, saying that the riot was a “protest”, and therefore no one should be punished for their participation.
This is not the only absurd claim Trump made. At one point, he even said, “This was a protest about a rigged election and the people that were there, there was great love in the air.” The two also discussed a lesser-known part of the January 6 investigation, which revolves around an attempted bombing the day before the riots, January 5, at the RNC and the DNC headquarters.
