Eric Trump recently made an appearance on a podcast hosted by former NFL player Jay Cutler titled “Uncut”. In it, he discusses how little his family knew about politics at the beginning of Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign for president, even going as far as to say, “We weren’t smart enough to collude with Russia.”
Another notable story from the younger Trump brother was his anecdote of asking a staff member at an Iowa Caucus what a caucus actually was.
Basically, he is attempting to make the point throughout the interview that his family was simply too inexperienced and ignorant politically to have possibly committed the financial and political atrocities that many members of the Trump family have been accused of.
Eric made a specific reference to the case of collusion with the Russian government that was investigated by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, where an expansive amount of links were found but not enough definitive proof was ultimately uncovered. However, Eric claims that his family simply did not know enough to have pulled off such a devious stunt, although it seems possible he is simply confusing his own lack of knowledge with what other, more connected members of his family would know.
Trump’s story about the Iowa Caucus, while meant to demonstrate his family’s general lack of political knowledge, only demonstrates how little he knows personally, and even more so his refusal to do his own research. In his own words, recalling that day, he says that, “I remember walking up to a caucus in Iowa saying, you know, I looked at this young staffer and I go, ‘Hey, do you know what a caucus is?”

Only Eric Trump could roll out a ‘We’re Too Dumb’ defense. New interview: “We weren’t smart enough to collude with Russia. We didn’t know what the hell we were doing. We didn’t know what a delegate was .. What the hell do I know.” (Audio) pic.twitter.com/qJ3fmAtYqa
