Evidently, it just now occurred to Mike Pompeo that it would be a good idea to unite the country, which implies that he believes that our polarized nature is most definitely a problem. He just noticed?

Apparently so, because there’s very little else to explain the utterly random and weird tweet and time it was issued and the problems go well beyond that. But it is safe to say that it’s likely Mike is running for something if he’s putting out sh*t like this.

One, it is nearly indecipherable. We get the general gist but it is a little tough to get at the specifics.

Two, if one is truly trying to unite all citizens, it is likely a good idea to do it like the Founders and leave God out of it as much as possible. For those of us believers, let us believe privately. For Americans who are secular in nature and either agnostic or atheist, it is probably good to not unite everyone under Pompeo’s definition of a creator.

Coming from a guy who has done almost nothing but try to divide the country that is awfully rich.

Much more importantly, every attempt to unite a country around or under a single religion (which is what Mike is getting at) has failed, miserably, because inevitably the belief in that religion becomes the first and only test of citizenship. Had Mike written the sentence with something like “We are all granted the same rights and equal under our Constitution,” we could go along with it.

It wouldn’t match reality, but under the written document, yes, we are all the same, it just doesn’t play out that way in real life. So, maybe that would be a good way to start “uniting” this country, just making a better attempt at treating everyone equally according to the law and not our creator?
