Liz Cheney:

“While these maniacs are going through the place, I’m standing in the aisle and [Jordan] said, ‘We need to get the ladies away from the aisle. Let me help you,’ ” recalled Cheney, then the House of Representatives’ No. 3 Republican, per the book. “I smacked his hand away and told him, ‘Get away from me. You f—ing did this.’ “

As Reported: July 20, 2021

Regular readers here know that the personal nature of Cheney’s statement always struck us as telling. One might think that in such a situation, Cheney might be referencing every Republican that objected to Biden’s win, over 100 in the House. She might have been referencing “you were the ones that did this…” But that description doesn’t ring true with her words. It was when Jordan, specifically, grabbed at her and she said directly to Jordan, “You did this.”

Not “you guys…” or “your group…” “You did this.”

Maybe we’re making too much of it. Maybe we hit it right on the head. Our readers are sophisticated enough to make a better collective determination.

But the phrase will become very relevant next week as multiple media outlets are reporting that the Select Committee is going to release the name of a Representative that texted Meadows on January 6th.

Should Kamala Harris Run for President in 2028?

We know that one phone call came directly from McCarthy to Trump. But that is expected. McCarthy is GOP leader in the House with Trump’s number.

But if some “regular” representative was texting Meadows, it would be a red flashing light because one would think, a regular middle of the pack representative in Congress wouldn’t have the White House Chief of Staff’s personal cell phone number on their contact list. Unless there was something more going on.

Top Senators? Yes, they would have direct access to Meadows. A representative from Idaho’s 2nd district? No, that Representative would likely have to call Meadows’s office.

So, if we have a regular mid-level representative personally texting Meadows during the riot and, even more interestingly, before the riot, well then we’d really have some evidence that definitely should be telling.

But there is another very important consideration. Liz Cheney said “One Representative of Congress texted… ” She did NOT say that it was the only one. It would be just like Cheney to keep a few representatives guessing. We do not know, but we are not prepared to definitively say that Cheney’s comment means only one Rep. texted that day. It wouldn’t surprise us at all if the committee held something back.

Jim Jordan is trending. Separately, Gym Jordan is trending (For several reasons and we may do a separate column on the other reason). Guess who people think was in contact with Meadows, the mid-level Congressman? And perhaps some low-level ones:

We will see, soon enough.
