Fox New’s “Christmas Tree” wasn’t actually a tree (maybe there was something semi-alive in there somewhere) but it was primarily scaffolding holding all the decorations. When prosecutors presented the evidence at the charging hearing, the prosecution asserted that Fox News sustained $5,000 in damages. (Caveat, they were likely simply meeting a statutory amount and saying “at least” $5000 in damages).
We cannot verify the accuracy of the figures, but they are close enough to make a very real point. The prosecutors alleged around $5,000 in damages. We are sure there is a statute that covers higher amounts. Peter Doocy said there was $500,000 in damages. If Fox spent more than $50,000 on its tree, its priorities are more misplaced than even we thought. A lot of toys for needy kids can be purchased with every $1,000 increment.
Regardless, as everyone knows, a homeless man with a history of mental illness burned down the Fox News Christmas tree with no intention of harming a human being. Fox eventually embarrassed itself with its coverage. Or, at least, we think most of Fox embarrassed itself.
This is actually hard to write, it is so unbelievable. But today, in what must have been one of the few briefings after the fire, Peter Doocy asked Jen Psaki if the “arson” burned Christmas tree represented “good governance.”
President Biden is worried about the fact that inflation is rising due to a bottleneck in shipping. President Biden is worried about the fact that at least 33% of this country will not get vaccinated under any circumstances making the country more dangerous for all of us. President Biden is worried about the fact that Russian troops are massed on Ukraine’s border, there will be 175,000 by January.
President Biden cannot worry about a troubled man who lit a Christmas tree on fire with no intention of hurting anyone.
Peter Doocy must possess the minimum intellectual firepower it takes to understand that the question is ridiculous. If Peter Doocy was told to ask the question and he doesn’t have the self-respect to say “No, I am not asking such a ridiculous question,” then he doesn’t deserve a spot in the press room.
In case you’re wondering, Psaki said Doocy could ask local law enforcement in NYC.
Humiliation:
Doocy: We’ve seen an arsonist burn down a half a million dollar Christmas tree in New York City back on the streets. Does the President think that’s good governing? pic.twitter.com/6vWcZoFNdI
