For anyone who has not heard, and it may be a good sign if you have not, Dr. Oz, the physician turned snake-oil salesman has carpet bagged his way to Pennsylvania to run for the open Senate seat. No one was or is shocked that the practiced fleecer is running as a MAGA, there is no other way.

Stephen Colbert is extremely tough to trick. Though – to be fair, Dr. Oz moved pretty quickly from trusted “real doctor” to the guy that says what conservatives want to hear, and then quickly had things to sell, stuff that enriched him.

Colbert was one of the first to comment on the offensiveness of Oz’s new gimmick. According to the Daily Beast:

Stephen Colbert kicked off his run of jokes about Dr. Mehmet Oz’s big campaign announcement on Tuesday with a bit of a softball: “Turns out, running for Senate is the one weird trick to reduce belly fat.”

But again, Colbert didn’t need an entire staff, nor a career that required him to subsume himself into politics to see Oz coming from miles away:

Before he entered the political sphere, Stephen Colbert noted that Oz had career as a liar, peddling questionable health advice on TV,” highlighting some of his most egregiously irresponsible claims.

It’s obvious now, so obvious that it’s amazing that anyone buys it, literally anyone. But there was a point in time when he seemed like a real physician – a cardiovascular surgeon – and fairly early on he looked and sounded like someone who could be trusted.

Stephen figured it out. He must have seen a guy who was making probably between $500k -$1M a year with his specialty. Imagine the greed it takes to go from a position where you truly are helping people, and rich for it, and then shifting to make more money knowing that he is hurting the people that donate money. The greed is just… well, Trumpian. We hope that this isn’t much more than a stunt (of course we thought that Trump wasn’t much more than a stunt), but he sure does fit perfectly.
