Me. Me. Me. Me. Me. Me. Me. Me.

Presumed, Donald Trump’s view of the world.

Donald Trump is unhappy. He is not appreciated enough. Of course, we need to tell you more because Trump is never happy because he never feels sufficiently appreciated. This time, it is Ron DeSantis, again, in Trump’s sites, for the same reason he’s always in Trump’s sites. DeSantis is relatively popular, too popular if he’s not going to be crediting Trump the entire time.

According to Business Insider:

However, despite the niceties, and the continued communication between the two men, Trump is “increasingly irritated” that DeSantis won’t shut down a 2024 presidential run if the former president launched his own bid, according to CNN.

That’s not quite accurate. DeSantis hasn’t publicly announced that he would “shut down” a presidential run were Trump to seek the Republican primary again. But DeSantis is up for reelection in 2022 in Florida and would be pretty stupid to address 2024 at all until he’s somehow secured a win in 2022.

Two individuals with knowledge of the situation said that the governor informed Trump that he has no plans to run against him in a GOP primary, but the former president reportedly will not be pleased until DeSantis publicly makes the pronouncement, according to the network.

“I don’t think Trump appreciates the conundrum DeSantis is in. He wants him to say, ‘I won’t run,’ but DeSantis isn’t going to weigh in like that,” a former Trump aide told CNN, pointing to the governor’s reelection bid next year.

Whether Trump appreciates the “conundrum” or not isn’t the least bit relevant. Ask yourself whether Trump cares about the conundrum and one will be much closer to an accurate picture of the dynamic.

Trump believes he pulled DeSantis out of nothing and made him everything. He may have pulled DeSantis from nothing, but DeSantis has done plenty to earn his own MAGA bona fides, things for which he didn’t need any help from Trump.

As the former president teases a 2024 presidential bid, he’s still overwhelmingly in control of the GOP party apparatus — and according to a CNN report, he wants DeSantis to give him more credit for a political rise that has made the Florida politician a household name among Republicans across the country.

We have no doubt at all that Trump wants to see DeSantis stand there all day, every day saying that he wouldn’t be where he is without Donald Trump and that every time he’s confused about an issue, he either calls Trump or at least asks himself “What would Trump do?”

But who knows? Maybe, for once, Trump did a bit “too good a job,” and DeSantis doesn’t really feel the need to credit Trump with everything he accomplishes. Just a guess.

And here’s another guess. The dynamic will not change until Trump makes an actual decision regarding whether he’s running or not in 2024.
