Appearing on Newsmax Wednesday night, Republican Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz told the host how much he appreciated the network’s support of accused vigilante Kyle Rittenhouse during his trial. That seems to be the general consensus among conservatives — they like what Kyle did and want to encourage more of that behavior.

But Gaetz didn’t stop at just showing Kyle some love. He actually almost offered him a job during the broadcast.

He is not guilty. He deserves a not guilty verdict, and I sure hope he gets it because you know what? Kyle Rittenhouse would probably make a pretty good congressional intern. We may reach out to him and see if he’d be interested in helping the country in additional ways.

Now, “not guilty” is saying a lot here. Because there is no dispute over Rittenhouse’s actions, the verdict hinges on whether the jury thinks they were justified. That’s where Gaetz agrees with the young man. He believes that it was perfectly proper for someone not even local to the area to come armed with a high-powered g*n and “protect” property that didn’t even belong to him, at the cost of lives.

And to really rabbit-hole that idea, it speaks to the concept of believing someone deserves to lose their life over something that a person with a gun decides they’ve done wrong.

There is no difference between what happened in Kenosha and what happened when George Floyd allegedly tried to pass a counterfeit bill in Minnesota: Even if he had committed a crime, the penalty for it is surely not lethal.

For Gaetz to make the suggestion that Rittenhouse could work for him sounds a little like a match made in heaven, honestly. Here you have a young man who is theatrical, angry, racist, and outraged by everything all the time.
