Georgia’s Marjorie Taylor Greene, a fierce advocate for the apparent constitutional right to be an idiot, just can’t help herself. She comes from a party that loves to talk about performative concern, which they call “virtue signaling.” But nobody seems to do that better than she does herself.

Case in point: Appearing on Newsmax, the freshman Congresswoman complained at length about how much money she’s been fined for not wearing a mask on the House floor. That became a thing earlier this year when Democrats first imposed the fines, then Nancy Pelosi made it so the money is automatically taken out of the offender’s pay.

But all of her bluster is meaningless. She just doesn’t want to wear a mask on the House floor. She seems to be just fine wearing one elsewhere if it suits her purposes.

She unsuccessfully tried to sue Pelosi over the mask mandate, citing CDC guidelines saying that fully vaccinated people did not need to wear a mask in most situations. But then she appeared on Newsmax, clearly admitting that she isn’t vaccinated at all.

In fact, in her interview she says “I refuse to wear a mask,” and claims that she will be “be standing strong, standing up for the people across this country that refuse to get vaccinated.”

Obviously, that’s all rehearsed for the role she’s playing of Defiant Anti-Mask, Anti-Vax Lawmaker. Because here she is — when she has to play by the rules to get what she wants — wearing a mask at the airport:

That’s how it is for most of these Republicans. They don’t actually have anything against masks or vaccine mandates or any of it, they just know they have to keep up appearances to keep their voting base angry.
