Well look at that, a Trump not taking responsibility for their actions and blaming someone else. Who would’ve ever thought?
Donald Trump’s company has sold his Washington, D.C., hotel to Miami-based CGI Merchant Group, a hospitality financial group, just a little over 5 years after they opened the hotel in September 2016. The deal is for $375 million, less than $500 million that Trump’s business reportedly had sought.
Eric Trump, executive vice president of The Trump Organization, confirmed the sale to the Miami Herald, saying in an email: “Heavy hearts all around. I think it’s safe to say no public figure in the history of the United States has been persecuted the way President Trump has.”
LOL. Talk to Abraham Lincoln buddy. I’m pretty sure he had a rougher go than your lying, conniving pops. The hotel didn’t fail because your father was persecuted. It failed because your father divided this country in half, and the half that would pay $500+ to stay in a hotel won’t stay in one with the Trump name.
The Wall Street Journal first reported the sale Sunday. The Trump name will likely be stripped as the property, which is pretty much as toxic as a name can get. The new hotel is expected to be rebranded as a Waldorf Astoria.
The hotel was a favorite spot for members of Trump’s administration, and the president himself, to gather during his term, a haven in an otherwise heavily Democratic city. But it also became a focal point of lawsuits and congressional investigations that foreign dignitaries were staying in its pricey rooms to curry favor with the administration. During Trump’s presidency, demonstrators would often project images on the side of the hotel as part of protests of administration policies.
The Trump Organization has said that it gave profits from foreign governments to the U.S. treasury. But the House Oversight and Reform Committee is investigating whether the full extent of those profits were disclosed to the General Services Administration, which oversees the lease of the property. The committee also has been investigating other potential conflicts of interest.
According to findings of the House Oversight Committee, Trump’s hotel lost $70 million during his time in office. The hotel opened in 2016, just a couple months before Trump was elected.
