We’re going to say this up front. Wash your clothes with borax, not your body.

The powdery chemical compound often used as a cleaning agent for your home or laundry was trending on Twitter on Friday, after a news report claimed that some anti-vaxers have been using it in a potentially dangerous detox bath to “undo” their COVID-19 vaccines.

The NBC News report highlighted a viral TikTok video featuring Dr. Carrie Madej, an osteopathic internal medicine doctor who has posted a number of debunked theories about COVID vaccines to Twitter. The original video was removed by TikTok last month, but clips and the recipe have continued to spread across social media. Madej claims that one can “detox the vaxx” by soaking in a bath of baking soda and Epsom salt — which are safe enough, but don’t act the way she claims they will.

That’s why it’s so disturbing to see her leading a parade of anti-vaccine activists in an effort to “undo” the effects of mandated shots they never wanted to get in the first place. Maybe they needed to keep their job, or maybe go to a restaurant in San Francisco — whatever the reason, they didn’t want the vaccine and had to get it.

So what’s a conspiracy theorist who believes that they’re now infected with an experimental vaccine that will allow the government to control their minds with 5G to do? Why, go see Dr. Madej, of course. For the low, low price of (however much it is, it’s too much), you too can see a doctor tell you to take a bath in baking soda, Epsom salts, and borax, the compound you add to your laundry soap.

Don’t forget the borax, either. That’s the part that gets rid of the “liquefied computing systems” that are injected into you when you get the vaccine, says Dr. Madej.

According to Men’s Health, “The risks [of the bath] are minimal,” William Schaffner, M.D., professor of preventive medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center says. “You may get an external skin cleansing, but it won’t have any effect on your immune system, which has already responded to the vaccine.”
