Despite approaching almost a year after the January 6 Capitol riots, the incident is still a huge talking point for many Republicans, specifically Trump supporters.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Congresswoman known for her association with the far-right conspiracy group QAnon, is particularly obsessed with the insurrection. In fact, in a sudden but not unpredictable move, she recently uploaded a video of herself and Rep. Louie Gohmert trying to gain access to the prison where those who participated in the insurrection are being held.

The two congress members used the excuse of “conducting oversight” to explain why they wanted to enter the facility. However, the fact that they uploaded the video on Twitter, along with the phone number for the jail, makes it obvious that they are simply playing into what they think will gain them support from their extremist voter base.

Another hint to this end was their treatment of the deputy warden. Their disrespectful tones and their insistence after being told that they wouldn’t be allowed in are downright arrogant and border on harassment. Neither Greene nor Gohmert have the authority to enter prisons to “conduct oversight”, and neither have ever shown in interest in the welfare of prisoners before this time.

Greene and Gohmert (seriously, what a pair) also tried threatening the deputy warden by saying that they would have a judge hold him in “contempt”, which of course is another thing they have no power to do. Fortunately, the deputy warden seemed aware of this, and continued to deny them access until they finally left.

While their outlandish behavior may earn them points within their fringe fanbase, most viewers will agree they that they sound just about outrageous in the video they uploaded themselves.
