The GOP has a problem that it couldn’t possibly deserve more. According to New York Times’ reporter Maggie Haberman, Liz Cheney has told her that there are plenty of Republican lawmakers that are just fine with Trump being off Twitter and would really rather not have him as part of the party.

Well, that is certainly understandable and sounds quite believable.

There are very few people on this earth easier to hate than Donald Trump. Of course, the problem is that these pols want to be voted back into office every two years (for the House). To be sure, not every Republican voter is a Trump supporter, we at this site suspect there is a significant portion that wants him to just go away. However, there are enough MAGAs in every Republican district such that the pols have to place nice and worship the false idol, the [faux] golden calf, Donald Trump.

It must be hard, as Haberman describes:

“What [Cheney] says about the number of lawmakers who also resent him, who feel as if he has his boot on their necks, who feel as if they’re going to get threatened and are thrilled that he doesn’t have his Twitter feed anymore, that’s real too,”

Yeah, well, the Twitter feed was certainly more efficient and he did have 80 million followers, probably at least 25 million of them were real actual people and not bots. But they’re getting pretty efficient at having Liz Harrington simply post his “Statements” that look a lot like tweets. Less punch, to be sure, but enough of a punch that everyone best behave.

“At the moment, the party’s base is with the former president, and contrary to predictions that that was going to change when he left office, we haven’t seen that,” she said. “If anything, we have seen the number of Republicans who have, you know, bought into his falsehoods about the last election have also grown.”

Okay, but now we’re talking about a percentage of people that call themselves “Republicans.” So maybe the people who bought his falsehoods went from 65% of Republicans to 80% of Republicans. But what if the total number of people calling themselves “Republicans” is going down? They might want to ask Georgia that question.

There is no doubt that Stacie Abrams won Georgia for Biden and the two senators. It would be silly to even debate that. But, Stacie got some help from the educated middle/upper-class Buckhead area in suburban Atlanta, white people who perhaps formerly called themselves “Republicans” but just aren’t going there anymore, especially educated suburban women, or – as Trump called them, “suburban housewives.” You know, that “suburban housewife” that teaches chemistry at the community college? Or the “suburban housewife” who spends her day as an orthodontist and evening as busy mother and wife? You know, those “housewives?” Are they calling themselves Republicans anymore?

And this is the House Republicans’ problem. They can’t win without that moronic hard-core base, but it’s also very tough to beat Stacie Abrams (and other states’ hard-working vote advocates) without also having some of those educated suburban women who are tired of the racism, the anti-intellectualism, and idiocy.

It is the perfect dilemma for those perfect pols that chose to accept what they knew all along was unacceptable.
