It is unbelievably sad having to do these stories over and over. But the public seems to appreciate them, the numbers don’t lie, and one writes every single story, hoping that this will be the one that gets forwarded to someone who really needs to hear it.

Nashville public radio interviewed a long-distance trucker named Joe Gammon. Now, a lot of us have always thought it might be wonderful to be out riding the highway and listening to interesting stuff the whole time. But while some of us might be consumed with cosmology and quantum mechanics, others are bathing in conservative talk radio.

Guess which ones don’t get vaccinated? The station interviewed Gammon from his ICU bed.

“Gammon is a truck driver from Lascassas who says he listens to a lot of conservative talk radio. And the daily diatribes downplaying the pandemic and promoting personal freedom were enough dissuade him from vaccination. Tennessee hospitals are setting new records each day, caring for more COVID patients than ever, and the most critical are almost all unvaccinated, meaning ICUs are filled with regretful patients hoping for a second chance.”

As always, one strains to feel some sort of humanity, to wish one wasn’t so angry at the guy and as per usual (nowadays) we find out he’s young (46) and is the father of six. Six innocent victims of conservative talk radio:

“If I would have known six months ago that this could be possible, this would have been a no-brainer,” he explained. “But I honestly didn’t think I was at any risk. That is the naive portion on my end.”

If he listened to NPR sixteen months ago the vaccine would have been a “no brainer” the moment it came out.

“Just to say ‘no’ is irresponsible. Because it might not necessarily affect you. What if it affected your spouse? Or your child? You wouldn’t want that. And you sure wouldn’t want that on your heart.” 

What? “Just say no”? What the hell is he even talking about? Are they talking about the vaccine, like it’s huffing glue?

Six innocent victims and – depending on what this guy was hearing and level of education, possibly seven innocent ones.

This guy… we don’t know. As always, we hope he gets better.
