Perhaps there is something to be said in feeling vindicated while drawing one’s last breath. Robert David Steele was a former CIA Officer who went deep into the Q-anon conspiracy hole long ago and – proudly – proclaimed himself to be the first person to realize COVID was a hoax, died somewhat peacefully, of COVID, while knowing that he had been right all along. That is one hell of a hoax, but even death couldn’t fool him. And, we find ourselves having to humbly admit, that is someone who knows his shit.

From Vice:

Steele, who was among the earliest QAnon promoters and helped the conspiracy theory move from the fringes of the internet into the mainstream, was hospitalized with symptoms of COVID-19 earlier this month. But he continued to spread anti-vaccine and COVID-denial conspiracy theories until the end.

The article didn’t include whether his last communication could be construed to be a self-satisfied smile. “They tried everything they have, but I’m going out knowing…”

“I will not take the vaccination, though I did test positive for whatever they’re calling ‘COVID’ today, but the bottom line is that my lungs are not functioning,” Steele wrote in his final blog post on August 17, accompanied by a picture of him hooked up to what appears to be a ventilator.

“We will never be the same because now we know that we’ve all been lied to about everything,” Steele added. “But, now we also know that we can trust each other. I’m alive today because I had a network that put me into a good hospital in Florida.”

Whatever they’re calling “COVID”? They could have called it “meatballs” and if doctors and scientists said that these “meatballs” are what causes lungs to shut down all over the world, we’d have wanted to avoid the “so called” meatballs and injected tenderizer or whatever else the CDC recommended.

“We” have been lied to about everything (Trump did lie a lot, but he had a lot of tells). But, now we also “know that we can trust each other.” So, now that he’s not alive, he’s going to have to come up with a better theory about hospitals and networks, but fckin’ a, this guy knew it all along, he had it pegged.

Sort of sad. It sounds like mental illness as much as anything. There must be a line somewhere upon which self-satisfaction as to one’s own cynicism crosses over into hopeless mental illness, self-induced or not. But, having died, we are sure that he’s on the other side, laughing at us.

We never got to him, our meatballs needed to be bigger, or something.
