If you have a child under 18, you shudder the first time you hear about them. If your child is younger than eight or so, you fear for the mental impact it has: We all had fire drills. They don’t have fire drills anymore because schools don’t catch on fire anymore. They have Intruder Alerts (Or some other name) because… well, you know why. It involves a teacher locking the classroom door, some have kids pull shades, some involve hiding in closets or finding a place to hide. Kids who are in Junior high or high school now just think it’s “normal.” Parents of First Graders want to rush in and tell them it’s alright. It won’t happen (and then pray).
Perhaps drills are normal now, but when a school goes into “lockdown” (Which, for our purposes, we’re using as interchangeable. We don’t know the differing nomenclature.), and the kids only know it’s not a drill, that’s a serious issue. Schools were always safe zones when we were growing up.
You can have protests, you can protest almost anything in America, at the proper time, place, and manner. If Americans want to protest schools having the sense to have students wear masks, then protest, but do it at the proper Time. Place. Manner.
The Proud Boys aren’t trying to protest “normally,” and are acting far too much like Proud ISIS or Proud Taliban:
Three schools in Washington state went on lockdown on Friday after a crowd of far-right protestors. Members of Patriot Prayer, a far-right group tied to the Proud Boys, assembled outside of Skyview High School on Friday in Vancouver to protest against face mask requirements.
Many wore signature Proud Boys colors, yellow and black, according to Oregon Public Broadcasting. Some students and teachers in favor of masks showed up to counter protest. Some of the Patriot Prayer protesters at Skyview attempted to escort a student who was seeking a medical exemption for wearing a mask into a building.
Now imagine what they’ll do when really mad, like when a MAGA loses an election again, or one tries sensible gun regulations. We don’t know what it might be but something has to be done about these people.
