At some point in the near future, we will do a long analysis on how it was that Texas was able to do an end-run around Roe v. Wade. It has something to do with handing enforcement over to a private party and thus women having no one to sue in order to get a court to file an injunction against the law.
Last week, weirdly, a federal appeals court failed to take the case up, and then last night, the SCOTUS also refused to hear the case and today, in Texas, for all practical purposes, women cannot get an abortion in Texas. Clinics are shut down. We suspect that within 60 days, every red state will have an identical law.
This is quite obviously a product of an energized MAGA movement that believes it can do anything and it is also a product of the fact that Trump got to name three justices. The alternative to Trump naming three justices was Hillary Clinton naming three justices.
Imagine the difference. The court would now be solidly liberal for the next 20 to 30 years. Instead, we have “this.” We have Brett Kavanaugh, a man totally unqualified to be on the Court, and two people who are qualified but are so far to the Right that it’s near hopeless. The country is in enough trouble with red-state legislatures making voting near impossible. It is pretty grim when one is counting upon Chief Justice Roberts and one of the other “four” to be somewhat liberal on a case, any case, especially the right to choose.
Again, imagine Hillary. Imagine those liberals who decided that for reasons we’ll never understand, they were voting third party (a vote that may as well be a Trump vote) over Hillary Clinton. There are legitimate reasons to harbor some distrust of the Clintons, but Hillary was about as prepared a candidate as had ever run in history, she would have been a good president, 1000x better than Trump, but was the victim of horrific misogyny. Misogyny (“Her voice!” When did we hear that about a man? Trump? “His voice!”) misogyny and Russia… and Susan Sarandon, one of the most prominent Hollywood liberals who refused to vote for Hillary due to Hillary being too much of a “hawk,” among other reasons.
It is not Susan Sarandon’s fault that Hillary lost, but she does symbolize all that went wrong (Bernie Sanders, too) and fair or not, Susan is getting rolled, hard, very hard, on Twitter today:
Hey, hats off to Susan Sarandon for helping to both get us into Afghanistan and out of Roe v. Wade. pic.twitter.com/GYqLXmnoTO

There are plenty who are saying Susan Sarandon played no role, or negligible role and we tend to fall into that camp. We are mad at everyone who voted for anyone but Hillary in 2016.
