As everyone knows, one cannot just phone the president, any president. Even with respect to presidents who carry their own cell phones, one would presume that the call would need to somehow get through some sort of protection around the White House (we would hope). The White House switchboard handles calls for hundreds of prominent government officials, ex-presidents, etc. Your average congress critter is not getting through to a president at any given point, especially during an emergency.

Kevin McCarthy called Trump during the emergency. That makes sense, he is the GOP minority leader. Jim Jordan admitted to calling Trump, the implication was always “once.” That is a bit odd. Yes, Jordan is a “prominent” Republican, but one would’ve thought that access to Trump during that “emergency” would’ve been extremely limited. And yet, today we hear that Jordan was able to get through more than once. From POLITICO:

After a group of lawmakers were evacuated from the House chamber to a safe room on Jan. 6, Jordan was joined by Rep. MATT GAETZ (R-Fla.) for a call during which they implored Trump to tell his supporters to stand down, per a source with knowledge of that call. The source declined to say how Trump responded to this request.

Jordan, when asked about whether Gaetz participated, said he’d “have to think about it,” citing many conversations he had during the frenetic attack. He also said phone calls to Trump happened more than once on that deadly day.

The source declined to say how Trump responded? Under what circumstances would a source decline to say; “Trump said he’s doing all he can, he’s going to put out tweets, he’s getting ready for a video, he’s called in the national guard, he’s been on the phone with…”

Why would someone decline to say what Trump would obviously say in such an emergency? Is it because Trump didn’t say the obvious thing? Is it because everything was going as planned, in Trump’s mind? Still, it is interesting that two rather “low” government employees were able to get through to Trump twice during the emergency.

And then there’s this:

Should Kamala Harris Run for President in 2028?

“Look, I definitely spoke to the president that day. I don’t recall — I know it was more than once, I just don’t recall the times,” Jordan told our Olivia Beavers. He later said that “I’m sure” one of the Trump-involved calls took place in the safe room “because we were in that room forever.”

Huh. It would seem as though one would remember whether it was “one” or “two,” …beyond that, it gets fuzzy, correct? And guess what? One of them is the one that Liz Cheney pushed away and said, “You fcking did this! You did this!”

Just an interesting side note, make of it what you will.
