There is a reason that Trump has every employee that ever runs the risk of being in his presence sign an NDA. Trump lives in mortal fear of embarrassment. He simply cannot handle it and that’s a bad quality to have when one does so many embarrassing things, as Trump is known to do.

But Trump’s fear of embarrassment goes well beyond personal embarrassment, he doesn’t like being professionally embarrassed, either, as Forbes’ reporter Zach Everson found out quite recently. Everson used to watch the hotel closely when Trump was in office, looking for lobbyists, from this country and elsewhere, attempting to discern who was looking for what favor.

Since Trump has been out of office, Everson has been more interested in whether the hotel can keep from going under. Trump is desperately trying to find a buyer. But with the name “Trump” slapped on it, and an attempted coup still fresh in people’s minds, as well as being hilariously overpriced, it’s not working too well.

Everson has been reporting on it. Recently, he went back to check in on things, ordered a grossly expensive coffee drink ($17.00), and went to wash his hands and leave. As he was doing so, he took some pictures of the lobby. mostly empty, Everson picks up the story from there:

While escorting me out, Wojciech explained that the ejection was for taking photos without permission. Once outside, he told me the ban was permanent, then declined to elaborate. Higher-ups in the Trump Organization also didn’t feel like explaining. When Forbes reached out to ask whether one of its reporters had, in fact, been banned from the hotel for life, a spokesperson did not respond.

The real reason they kicked me out probably wasn’t the photos though. For nearly five years, I’ve been reporting on the hotel, largely using social media to do things like track who was hanging out in the lobby (unsurprisingly, a lot of lobbyists) and who was using the hotel as an office (just Rudy Giuliani). I even started a newsletter, named 1100 Pennsylvania after the hotel’s address, to document the goings-on inside the building.

Some of my reporting may have been embarrassing to the hotel, as well as to the former president.

Trump doesn’t like being personally or professionally embarrassed. Trump actually doesn’t realize that banning a critic for life is far more humiliating, akin to having everyone sign NDAs, which is pretty stupid for a guy who doesn’t like to be embarrassed.

Thankfully, we think the story on the Trump DC Hotel has been told. Wanna buy a hotel?
