This is activism at its best. The MAGAs will call it “Cancel Culture.” Damn right, there are a lot of people in this country that want to cancel the entire MAGA enterprise and are turning to private enterprise to do what private companies can do, cut off anyone they don’t like. No shirt, no shoes, but an ugly red hat? No service.

Patagonia is tres cool, so cool that they’re beyond the price range of the average writer, unless that very average writer needs something to keep his dear daughter warm and at that point, he heads straight to Patagonia (Or the North Face) as the best outerwear company in the country. Outerwear, particularly coats, sweaters, socks, etc. is exceedingly important in Jackson Hole, which – at about 7000 feet of altitude in town, sort of says “fck you” to Prada right at the gate. One needs Patagonia and that’s going to be a problem for one resort that will have the entire product line pulled as payback for hosting the MAGiest of the MAGAs.

According to Mediaite:Patagonia confirmed Tuesday that it would no longer sell to the resort, its largest single customer in the Jackson Hole area. The resort company operates retail stores in Teton Village at the base of the ski area, as well as Hoback Sports and the Jackson Hole Resort Store in nearby Jackson.

The move came after Jay Kemmerer, one of the resort’s owners, co-hosted a fundraiser Aug. 5, 2021, at a posh Jackson hotel for the House Freedom Caucus. U.S. Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia), former Trump White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) headlined the event. Admission to the event cost a minimum of $2,000 per couple.

The three have parroted the former president’s false claims of election fraud and been panned by conservation groups for their environmental records. Patagonia and the caucus also diverge on social priorities like voting rights and advocacy for minorities and disadvantaged groups, according to widely reported public positions.

Think of Teton Village as Jackson Hole’s version of 5th Avenue, right at the base of the hill. They are going to get awfully cold this winter, almost as cold as the hearts of the people that invited that group.

Oh! And now having been “exposed” (so to speak), don’t be surprised if others follow suit. MAGAs don’t make up a big percentage of mountaineering naturalists.
