Twitter is in an absolute outrage this morning over a new Reuters report, as summarized by the Daily Beast:

Over 570 alleged rioters have been arrested since the storming of the U.S. Capitol in January—but the FBI has reportedly found little evidence that the riot was an organized plot to overturn Donald Trump’s election defeat. Citing four unnamed current and former law enforcement officials said to be familiar with the investigation, Reuters reports that the FBI has so far found scant evidence to suggest that the riot was centrally coordinated by far-right groups, the former president himself, or his close allies.

“Ninety to ninety-five percent of these are one-off cases,” one former law enforcement official said of the hundreds of riot-related arrests. “You have five percent, maybe, of these militia groups that were more closely organized. But there was no grand scheme with Roger Stone and Alex Jones and all of these people to storm the Capitol and take hostages.” The Justice Department and U.S. Attorney’s office in Washington, which are leading prosecutions related to Jan. 6, refused to comment on the Reuters report.

To believe that the FBI is correct in its findings (so far), that there was no grand scheme, nothing centrally planned, whatever, one has to disbelieve a lot of things right in front of our eyes. We can list a few of them off, but we want to start with testimony of which we’ve already heard, Acting A.G. Rosen saying Trump told him to write a letter finding fraud and leave the rest to him and Congress.

And then there are just a few other details that linger right in front of our face:

The strange number of representatives that seemed to know something big was coming (including MTG’s meeting in the White House in late 2020), the plan to “win” on Jan. 6th as leaked out of the White House a few months ago, the fact that Mo Brooks was essentially handed a speech to read days before the January 6th “protest,” the fact that the White House asked Alex Jones to organize and lead the march to the Capitol, the fact that the White House was involved in anything about the protest, the fact that Mike Pence distrusted the Secret Service and wouldn’t get in a vehicle, the fact that Ivanka spent the morning muttering to others, “This is wrong, Mike Pence is a good man, this is wrong,” the fact that Liz Cheney, in the heat of the moment, screamed at Jim Jordan, “You fcking did this!” Roger Stone meeting with Proud Boys the night before, Mike Flynn and Alex Jones speaking the night before… We could go on for an hour, discussing just things we’ve seen before our eyes.

Those are just a few. Twitter is apoplectic:

This is almost a joke. The only answer is public hearings. Wray is telling us that Trump telling Rosen to sign the letter finding fraud and “leave the rest to me and congress” is just… something that happened, unrelated.

Fck. You don’t want your president involved in specific investigations, but there are seldom specific investigations that involve national security at this level. If Biden wants to be rid of the MAGA movement for good, he needs to haul in Merrick Garland and demand some answers… now.
