We have never served as press secretaries, certainly not for the White House, and so we’re not going to make a call on whether Jen Psaki needed to be giving a briefing on Monday and Thursday or not. We don’t even know it was Jen Psaki’s decision. Press Secretary John Kirby did give a briefing and answered questions on Thursday. We are not sure what to make of any of it.

But here is what we do know, no one who participated in the Trump administration has any authority – least of all Kayleigh McEnany – to rip the Biden administration about “lack of transparency” in a crisis. Trump had a press secretary that didn’t once give a briefing (months long), and he had one in Kayleigh McEnany who lied on a daily basis.

Not for nothing, but President Biden just concluded a statement and took questions from the press. Regardless, we recall many critical days throughout the entire COVID debacle and in the days after the election, those days when COVID exploded along with “The Big Lie,” when Kayleigh didn’t hold press briefings.

None of that stopped Kayleigh yesterday from ripping Jen Psaki, personally, and we get the sense that McEnany is personally jealous of Psaki, who is respected by the press. From FoxNews.com:

Kayleigh McEnany ripped the Biden administration for its lack of transparency throughout the ordeal in Afghanistan, criticizing Press Secretary Jen Psaki specifically for not holding daily briefings.

“Jen Psaki promised us a daily White House press briefing,” McEnany said Thursday. “There isn’t one today. There wasn’t one Monday. When the going gets tough, the daily press briefing that she promised goes out the window.”

What Americans were left with, McEnany noted, was a Pentagon press briefing. And still, she said, Press Secretary John Kirby couldn’t answer some of the most pressing questions. When asked how many American citizens were trapped in Afghanistan, Kirby admitted, “I don’t know.”

“I do not know” is an honest answer, which is more than we can say for many of Kayleigh’s answers:

“When you are a press secretary at any entity, you anticipate whatever the questions will be. One of the most obvious questions is how many Americans are on the ground. He didn’t take up the time to pick up the phone and call Secretary of State Antony Blinken and get that number for us when you are the one place we are getting information from today, when there are nearly 15,000 American hostages on the ground?”

Again, as far as we know, Kayleigh may have a point. But here is the other point. She doesn’t have one leg to stand on and shouldn’t be criticizing anything about another press secretary given her abysmal record.
