It is not like the entire south is Maga-ritaville. Just 25 miles down the road from the Florida border, my child attends one of the best school districts in an entire state and… they have a mask mandate, in Alabama, albeit in one of the few “centrist” districts in a wealthy coastal county.

But if one has a governor that is bound and determined to show their Trump bona fides, it is going to require moves like this, ones that make no sense, are cruel, and use top down tyranny. Florida intends to punish counties that utilize mask mandates at school.

There is not much to say, according to Jacksonville Channel 4

The State Board of Education on Tuesday voted in favor of a recommendation to “use its enforcement powers” against Alachua County Public Schools after the district defied a statewide order to allow students to opt out of wearing a face mask without a doctor’s note.

With a unanimous vote, the board authorized the Florida Department of Education to investigate the Alachua County School Board and Alachua County Superintendent Carlee Simon as well as take “all legal steps to enforce rules” of the board and rules of the Florida Department of Health.

And according to Miami’s ABC News affiliate:

Florida’s education chief says he wants to punish Broward County Public Schools for not following Gov. Ron DeSantis’ executive order that calls for masking to be optional. Richard Corcoran is calling for sanctions but hasn’t yet said what kind.

In a letter sent to Broward schools on Tuesday, Corcoran wrote that, “I find there is probable cause that the School Board of Broward County and the district’s superintendent, Vickie Cartwright, acted contrary to the law.”

This is difficult because it does seem as though the school districts acted contrary to law, but in accord with what works to save lives. It demonstrates just how impossible the situation can be when the governor is actively working to put lives in danger.

Decision applies to these two districts. As of right now, they’re the only two that openly defied @GovRonDeSantis and mandated masks, largely without allowing parents to opt-out.

Other districts across the state imposed “mask requirements” but parents can opt out with a note.

But again, this is how one proves that one is pure Trump, through and through and that’s what is needed to succeed in today’s MAGA party.
