This Thursday, we’ve already reported on insane video from an anti-masker rage rally outside a school board meeting in Franklin, Tennessee and now we’re seeing something that seems entirely related and every bit as insane. Fox News is somehow backing up DeSantis and Abbot, even as they’re leading their states to the death chambers. Not all MAGA governors are equal, some of us in Alabama sent our kids to school with a mask mandate for everyone in the school.
For those not living in the south, those who may see this as somewhat “weird,” COVID is at least as big a problem now as it was over December, back when the country didn’t have a vaccine (except masks). Delta variant has changed everything. It is more virulent among children, more contagious among everyone, and it’s breaking through vaccines, thankfully – though, breakthroughs don’t require hospitalization. So how could anyone support a maniac like DeSantis and Abbott? Well, you need only inhabit a different political ecosphere where what is up is down. From Fox News:
The Lincoln Project faced backlash after posting a new attack ad against Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis and Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott.
On Wednesday, the political group posted an ad intended to smear the Republican governors for opposing mask mandates. The video depicted a masked child attending a school contrasted with the image of a child hooked to a ventilator in a hospital. Captions in the ad read “If you could prevent this, wouldn’t you?” in front of images of DeSantis and Abbott.
“First they asked you to sacrifice your grandparents for the economy, now it’s your children,” the Lincoln Project tweeted.
We are going to loosen our normal stringent Fair Use rules (Sometimes it seems like we’re the last on the internet to honor Fair Use, three paragraphs max), because some of this comes from different sources and continue down Fox’s Right-win view of this:
The ad was quickly called out for exaggerating threats of COVID-19 towards schoolchildren and also as a political tool for raising money.
“You have to give credit where it’s due: they understand how the minds of the weakest and most pathetic liberals function, which is how they’ve been able to fleece so much money from them in exchange for nothing of value, and continue the scam even after all they got caught doing,” Journalist Glenn Greenwald wrote.
First, we’ll deal with a couple of ridiculous things. Glenn Greenwald is not a journalist, he is what we are, an opinion/analyst, and his “valuations” shouldn’t be given factual weight. One can plainly see this as he moves into “fleecing” which – coming from a Foxian – is deep-fried butter rich.
But more to the point, this is not about “exaggerating” COVID-19 toward children. We were told all last year that we were “exaggerating” everything COVID and now we stand at 620,000 dead and look to be picking up the pace again. Additionally, the scientists haven’t had the time to gather the proper data to understand how much the delta variant (which is all there is now down here) impacts children and young adults differently than the original COVID.
Yet again, Fox finds itself on COVID’s side over real Americans. Let’s get this straight, these governors are taking away the school districts’ rights on their own to put a mask mandate in. That is a death cult no matter how one wants to cut it. Moreover, even though Fox does make assumptions about current conditions, we do not. We won’t say the threat is significantly higher, but we see news reports from all across the south of pediatric ICU wards being full. We cannot definitively state that last that summer’s data is probably almost irrelevant now, but we are seeing a lot of different things pointing in that direction.
Someway, somehow, these people are near pro-COVID. The world would look 100% different if, during the first week that the CDC advised masks, Trump had 4o different Trump-MAGA versions of masks for sale, and insisted that the vaccine be known as the Trump vaccine in all government documents. It is both that stupid and clear why we’re living in the world we inhabit now.
As for the ads not working? If they didn’t “work” at some level, Fox wouldn’t even be reporting on them.
