We tried to come up with something to justify writing this, something that sounds like it could impact your political life, with some flare. We went through one vote out of 435, and a district that keeps voting him back and… screw it, there is no conceivable way this impacts your life other than a chance to laugh your lips off and praise all those dogs in heaven that you do not belong to this party.

It is worth every minute of your time.

In his indefatigable  fight against anything labeled “Green,” Louis Gohmert has suddenly become quite an “ornithologist,” or at least a naturalist who has studied a disturbing pattern involving the plight of “hundreds of thousands of birds.” Of course, being the dumbass Texas man that he is – and everything is bigger in Texas – Louis isn’t the slightest bit concerned with all the fish and mammals that die from oil spills that happen on planetary scales. Nope. Just birds.

He tells the tale (tail?) of these hundreds of thousands of birds that have the misfortune of first “surviving” the windmills but then meeting their doom by flying into gigantic solar farms, the type that focuses sunlight on the water tanks to create the steam to run the generators blah blah. These birds get through a little dinged by the windmills and maybe loose a little judgment, after being hit on the head, and fly into these perfectly centered areas to… spontaneously combust. They call them “flamers.”

No, we are not kidding. But before we knock the living hell out of him, there is an issue with birds and solar farms but it involves roadrunners and other types of wildlife like desert tortuous and even insects. But the estimate of bird “flamers” is 6,000 a year, not hundreds of thousands and they do not get through windmills and then get shot down by focused light. (We assume 60,000 get hit by windows, but…) There is an ecological impact on birds and other wildlife, yes, just as there is with dams, just as there is with coal, just as there is with oil reserves, one cannot extract energy from the planet while perfectly protecting its entire ecology. We can do it better with some things than others but the only “perfect” place happens to be in space, and we’re not there yet.

So having been fair to Louis…

Ummm, so you are now three IQ points dumber, but what a bargain! And so worth it. These guys would drill through ten million baby seals if there was an oil reserve to be had, but pretend to care about birds spontaneously combusting… why not a KFC right underneath?

Jeezus, these people.
