A twofer!
We started Wednesday morning reporting on an incredibly important ruling in Scotland on what they – interestingly – call the McMafia law, which essentially asks the government to look into what seems like “unexplained wealth.” We are not experts but it’s clearly a law used to root out money laundering… and they want it used against Trump. Interesting, and very important.
Now on the same Wednesday another ruling, according to USA Today:
A federal judge Wednesday ruled that Congress could get access to two years of former President Donald Trump’s tax records, limiting a far broader House panel’s demand as part of a long-running inquiry into Trump’s financial disclosures.
Normally you might say, “Well, they’ll just appeal and… ” but this is one that comes after the appeal to the SCOTUS and judges have a far easier time denying the right to appeal. The taxes are coming and Trump is not going to do well according to his biographer, Tim O’Brien who has an economics background and answered Anderson Cooper’s question about how much this really matters:
“It matters deeply, because his tax returns would not only indicate how robust his business is, but how much money he had coming from overseas and who possibly his partners were from overseas.
To what extent did his interactions with Vladimir Putin or other dictators — how much were informed by his desire to pad his own wallet? I think this disclosure gets to that and he knows it. There’s relationships he’s had in the past he’s concerned about. Donald Trump consorted with members of organized crime in New York City and the real estate market.”
Hold up right there, please. This man seems to almost assume there are conflicts with Russia, sort of?
We, the staff at this site, are not geniuses, but we’ve said for nearly two years that the key to getting Trump out of office or in prison was an investigation into his money coming in and around Europe to the U.S. To the extent Trump has any financial conflicts with Russia, it’s over – as in really over, worse than Jan. 6th over, because there would be near immediate federal investigations and prosecutions. You cannot have a president that is owned by another president, especially one that has over one thousand nuclear missiles aimed at us.
Yes, we’re not geniuses, but we do know that is important.
