The world’s most famous liar might be lying, he might be telling the truth, but on this one, it actually doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter that the MAGA movement is getting smaller by the day 43% to 39% to 37% whatever. There will be a core of hardened MAGA “specialists” left, more than enough to send the country hurling into autocratic unpredictability. It sounded impossible after 1-6.

In the days after January 6th we all believed it was finally over. Both McConnell and McCarthy were blaming Trump, no one was supporting him. But he’s rehabbing, even as he loses a trickle and we’re left to wonder whether he’s getting help in this. It is happening a bit “too well,” just as we experienced things during his presidency. It is almost like a group of specialists or something are advising him. Who knows? Not us. But it’s working.

First, you whitewash the whole damn thing. “It was tourist trip that got rowdy,” “Trump has been investigated enough” (Mitch McConnell,) and “there was so much love in the air.” Second, after the whitewash, they need a martyr, and Ashli Babbitt has become that martyr. The only thing that the MAGAs want to be investigated about January 6th was who shot Ashli Babbitt. Third, you make the criminals in jail and the people there who assaulted the police, “freedom fighters, the good guys.” You do all that and you’re on your way to retaking the country, either by Trump or by someone he controls.

Read this statement from Trump and figure out where he stands in the process:

I spoke to the wonderful mother and devoted husband of Ashli Babbitt, who was murdered at the hands of someone who should never have pulled the trigger of his gun. We know who he is. If that happened to the “other side,” there would be riots all over America and yet, there are far more people represented by Ashli, who truly loved America, than there are on the other side. The Radical Left haters cannot be allowed to get away with this. There must be justice!”

There it is. She is the martyr. Not only that, the person who pulled the trigger is a murderer, and “everyone knows who he is” (Very very few know, but if Trump keeps saying everyone knows then someone can more easily say who it was). Even if Trump doesn’t know, any rumor about who it might be just put that person’s life in danger.

So Ashli is the martyr. And now the freedom fighters. Trump wasn’t talking about the people in jail (but some Senators and Republicans are), Trump is talking about anyone on his side. Trump says “the other side” while referencing a cop or Secret Service Agent, one or the other would be the only ones with guns in the Capitol (other than Reps. and Sens.). So the police are now the “other side” if they’re opposed to Trump’s hordes? And, of course, the hordes are the good side.

Yes. And what Trump mostly means by “our side,” he mostly means “white people.” This man is so fcking dangerous it can take our breath away.
