One has to be pretty sick to take unmitigated joy in the disappointment of others, especially with something as relatively unimportant as a birthday party. It may have seemed to some like it was a world summit, given the attendees, John Legend, Michael Jordan, George Clooney, our Nicole – admittedly, never put to the test around John Legend, Michael Jordan, or George Clooney, but if there was ever an A+ list of stars coming, this would be the party.
So it was sad in a pathetic sort of way, to watch Fox and Friends so gleeful about the whole thing being downsized:
Doocy could hardly contain his excitement when he hypothesized that Obama’s Martha’s Vineyard bash… could turn into a “super-spreader event.” (Thanks, Dr. Doocy.) But what got the gang really amped was the news that the Obamas are planning to downsize the shindig given due to health concerns over the new COVID Delta variant.
*We will be watching for the day that Doocy criticizes Florida or Alabama for having over 100,000 “spreaders” at a game.
As The New York Times reported, Obama spokeswoman Hannah Hankins released a statement on Wednesday morning to announce that: “Due to the new spread of the Delta variant over the past week, the President and Mrs. Obama have decided to significantly scale back the event to include only family and close friends. He’s appreciative of others sending their birthday wishes from afar and looks forward to seeing people soon.”
Doocy didn’t buy it:
“The problem is they told us you can’t do that you can’t have your wedding, you can’t have your funeral,” Doocy continued. “But we’re going to have this gigantic opulent party on Martha’s Vineyard for 500 elites and, you know, it was wrong.”
Wrong. The problem is that you weren’t invited. Additionally, it’s a terrible look having Barack Obama bring 500 of the world’s most beautiful “winners” together for a birthday party and the best Donald Trump could round up would be maybe Ted Nugent, Scott Baio, and Chuck Woolery, plus Stephen Bannon serving bath crystals, and for the love of God no women under 21.
Back to Fox and Friends:
Jones, however, stuck to his guns that “They wouldn’t have changed it if they didn’t get caught.” (Note to Lawrence: It would be very hard to hide 700 people anywhere on Martha’s Vineyard—an island that measures less than 90 square miles—especially under a tent at the home of a former president. So subterfuge was not likely ever part of the plan here.)
This is the key difference between Obama and Trump. Trump was more than willing to risk lives, including his own, to have White House Christmas parties last year (prior to the vaccine), whereas the Obamas are going to be cautious even now.
Feel like being giddy about that, Doocy?
