Behold! (And Behold! The video is below).
Something awful happened at the Klamath Falls City Council meeting on Tuesday evening and before we even get into it, we want to make clear that having spent quite a bit of time in Klamath Falls, let’s not impugn an entire community. It is a wonderful town.
That being said, it didn’t have a wonderful meeting.
Eric Osterberg, is an assistant to the city manager of Klamath Falls and staff lead for the Klamath Falls equity task force. He is also black and gay, two things that normally couldn’t matter less, but somehow meant a great deal last night. Osterberg was set to deliver the task force’s final report to the Klamath Falls city council. In the month to month business of the Kamath Falls city council, this was surely an important moment.
It was at that point when Osterberg noticed an agitated man holding the rock. “Agitated man” is a bad enough word to associate with a city council meeting, put a rock into play and… nothing good is going to happen.
The man yelled:
“Oh, so you think we are all racist? You think you are the second coming of Christ?”
Um. Yes, to the first part, and no to the rest?
Osterberg said the man accused him of spreading HIV and AIDS, and called him “blasphemous.” The incident did not last long:
“I’m not sure if he was arrested or just asked to go home,” Osterberg said. “I would hope that he was arrested since he made a direct threat to me, and I think it would be pretty bad if he was allowed to just leave.”
Behold! He was not arrested, which is making us rethink our position on Klamath Falls. It was a stone this time. Who knows what might happen again next time. It doesn’t sound like Osterberg is leaving any time soon.
Yesterday, Eric Osterberg, a Klamath Falls (Oregon) official who is also gay and Black, was making a presentation about equity.
Before he did that, a Christian man threatened him, holding a rock, saying he deserved to be stoned.

It is not too late to arrest him.
