There are very few moments of true comedy in the United States Senate. When those moments come at the expense of Mitch McConnell, they quickly become historic gold, Smithsonian-worthy.

Mitch McConnell has enjoyed his time running the country and he most certainly has had a good run. He was the one that swore it was his mission to make Obama a one-term president by not making a single deal with Obama. Thet’s why when Obama adopted some Republican ideas (subsidized insurance) every Republican bailed. Democrats passed a Republican idea 60-40.

The stolen seat.

During Trump’s term, there was never any question that McConnell ran the country, Trump served at McConnell’s pleasure. McConnell could’ve bounced Trump during the first impeachment, McConnell could have come out in favor of impeachment after Trump fired Comey for investigating Russia.

And, of course, all those SCOTUS seats and an almost shockingly immunity to shame. Mitch McConnell thought he owed the Article I branch. Presidents come and go, but Republicans control the majority in the Senate because Wyoming gets two Senators, California gets two, and Washington DC gets none.

Or at least that’s how the theory went, until Donald Trump’s last electoral loss (He had one win and got blanked the rest of the term). Yes, the devil went down to Georgia and he was looking for seats to give away and found two, much to the amazement of the country and shell-shocked Mitch McConnell.

Mitch McConnell is so used to “owning” the Senate that when leaving the floor to step up to a bank of cameras and microphones, he was – naturally, going to take the lead. He IS the Senate.

Wrong move, Mitch. the Senator from the Great State of New York moved in front of Mitch to block him out in a way that would make a basketball coach proud. Laughter broke out from everyone who dislikes Mitch McConnell, which is everyone. The funniest part is that Mitch didn’t seem to even realize what was going on until well after the laughter built and Schurmer noted, “the prerogatives of the majority.”

Maybe only then did it hit McConnell that he’s just another Senator now.
