We have already reported on the “joke” that Mike McCarthy made upon receiving a gift gavel (a big one) meant to reinforce the Republican assumption that they are winning the House back in 2022. We all know what happens when one “assumes” things and if the Republicans in the House continue to act as they have been, that assumption becomes more tenuous.

Upon receiving the gavel, McCarthy discussed what he might do with it. His first thought didn’t involve calling the House into session or introducing his first piece of legislation. No, upon receiving the gavel, his first thought was to tell the audience that he would use it to hit Nancy Pelosi over the head.

As we wrote at the time:

It is that simple. Men don’t hit women. Here is another one that is every bit as simple. Men don’t joke about hitting women because under no circumstances is it funny. He does need to resign, now. This one isn’t even close. Let’s ask ourselves this. If the leader of the Republicans were to be a woman (play along) and the majority-leading democratic man talked about beating her over the head with it, would the republicans put up with it?

No. Nor would they be wrong. This is why Twitter is exploding with “Resign McCarthy” right now.
