The conspiracy between Trump, the acting attorney general, and the congressmen Trump referenced is – obviously – still reverberating throughout the country, even overtaking the horrible news about the delta variant coming close to mandating shutdowns again.
There have been numerous occasions when the public was sure that Trump was on the verge of arrest, only for him to slide through somehow. The “somehow” almost always involved Trump’s feral survival instinct, leaving few clues around that could be led back to him. In other words, there was a lack of clear evidence pinning him to the crime (see Russia and the campaign, Mueller admitted that people lied and WhatsApp made it difficult to make a case).
But the notes from the Department of Justice constitute some damned good straightforward evidence. There would be two witnesses to the call, contemporaneous notes taken, no reason to make it up. And the difference here? This particular charge wouldn’t involve the incitement to raid the Capitol, this one would involve some kind of improper interference with an election or some kind of crime in pressuring prosecutors to take action. It is hard to know the exact crime, only that it certainly is a crime.
For this very reason, and because of the seriousness of the crime, some experienced prosecutors and legal experts are now calling for Trump to be charged and arrested, the implication being “as soon as possible.” Perhaps the nation’s foremost constitutional expert, Havard professor emeritus:
Laurence Tribe wrote: “‘Just say the election was corrupt + leave the rest to me’ & to congressional allies, [Deputy Acting AG Richard] Donoghue wrote in summarizing Mr. Trump’s response.” That’s part of a pattern showing Trump’s criminal planning to foment a coup”
Tribe is saying that they need to charge him, sooner than later, they have a pattern. Trump used whatever means necessary to effectuate a coup.
A former federal prosecutor in public corruption, Noah Bookbinder wrote:
“Today’s blockbuster report adds to the evidence that Donald Trump pressured the Department of Justice to help him overturn the election. @CREWcrew yesterday asked the Department to investigate his apparent violations of criminal law through this conduct.”
Much of the evidence is now out in the open and there is plenty of evidence to get a warrant, there is little reason to conduct a long investigation. At the very least several legal experts (there are others, but the above summarize the matter) seemingly believe that we’re “at that stage” where it’s time, time to announce the official investigation and start arresting people around Trump, people they know have lied or committed another crime and putting the screws to them. In such a situation, Trump could be arrested by the middle of August, interestingly enough, the same time period in which Lindell and others think he’ll be restored to office.
