Larry Kudlow knows how to get the MAGAs immunized in order to save their lives and keep their kids and grandkids from growing up resenting the fact that their family member was too gaw-damned MAGA, needing to “own the libs,” to take a simple shot in the arm. Kudlow wants Trump back on Twitter!
We agree… No, seriously, we agree.
Allow Trump access to his Twitter account. Allow him to tweet. Under one condition. Every single tweet he thumbs into his phone, be something that encourages MAGAs to get vaccinated. If he uses the word “Democrat, Biden, Rigged, Election, Audit, 2024, dogface, grab ’em, bleach, or any other of a list of 5,000 words, the tweet is rejected before it goes out. Kind of like a Twitter ankle bracelet. He is only allowed to tweet about the importance of immunization and the progress of immunization.
Twitter can even make a deal with him. “Do this correctly and your Twitter rights will be reconsidered on January 20th of 2025.” He may go hydrogen-bomb nuts, but all Twitter has to say is, “Okay. We were doing just fine without you and we’ll advertise that you wouldn’t take this deal.” They can tell him that If Trump can prove, over years, that he’s willing to help with something bigger than himself, he is allowed back on in 2025, but even then, with strict limits about lies and threats to people.
But that’s not Kudlow’s idea: From Mediaite in a talk with Sarah Huckabee-Sanders:
“I think President Biden should go to President Trump and ask him to help.
“President Trump has been out there unambiguously, ‘Get the vaccine.’ And that’s gonna help solve this temporary, I hope, delta strain. Furthermore, Sarah, I think that these media tech companies like Twitter and Facebook should put his account back in operation so he can appeal to the entire country to get the vaccination, and literally the rest of the world because everybody focuses on him. Now’s the time to do it.”
In terms the administration asking for Trump’s help? No. Because we all know how Trump will spin that and it will almost defeat the purpose of having Trump advocate it at all. Second, the rest of the world does not “focus on [Trump.] Third, as Psaki said, he doesn’t need an embroidered invitation, it’s the most important domestic issue rocking the country. But if Trump wants to appeal to the country to get vaccinated, through Twitter and Facebook, fantastic idea. Put him on.
But we know that’s not the goal. Indeed, it is a sad fact that we suspect (but cannot prove, this is opinion), that is someone made a deal with Trump, “We will let you back on Twitter, but it will cost 100,000 random lives across the United States,” we honestly think he would make that deal. Somehow, he would rationalize that he’d save more lives or that his leadership is too important. Sad, but how many disagree?
Kudlow’s idea has merit in the framework we listed above. It is not an excuse to jump back on, say “Get the vaccine if it is right for you,” and then start talking about patriots needing to take their country back from the man who stole an election. No. But if he says, “Save your life, the vaccine works, I helped develop it, and I want you to get it for yourself and your family,” then absolutely let him tweet it.
Let’s do an open-book test on whether Trump cares about anyone but himself.
