Only in the Trump era. Only in the Trump era.
Who could possibly have predicted that in 2020-2021, as the Trump-era wound down, thank our God in heaven, that the Cheney family (Liz’s father surely followed his brave daughter’s lead) that the Cheneys would be a Democratic ally in the fight for the preservation of fundamental democracy? Who could have seen this?
Not us.
And yet Liz Cheney has sacrificed her significant power within the GOP in order to fight on the side of a higher power, one trying to preserve democracy in America.
According to the Daily Beast’s excerpt of the new, highly anticipated book titled I Alone Can Fix It by authors Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker, Wyoming GOP Rep. Liz Cheney got into a heated, even physical exchange, one could call it a fight, with MAGA Rep. Gym Jordan on Jan. 6 as the mob of rioters reached and broke through the barriers to the U.S. Capitol building.
On Jan. 7, Liz Cheney, then the number three Republican in the House before her subsequent demotion for recognizing what Romney did not, recalled what had happened on Jan. 6. Talking with Joint Chief of Staff Chair Mark Milley, who is one of the adults in the room who Leonnig and Rucker depend on in their reporting and cast as something of a hero, Cheney ripped into “That f***ing guy Jim Jordan. That son of a b*tch…
While these maniacs are going through the place, I’m standing in the aisle and he said ‘We need to get the ladies away from the aisle. Let me help you.’ I smacked his hand away and told him, ‘Get away from me. You f***ing did this.’”
Damn good job, Liz. We will never agree on social or economic policy, but on the policy as to whether be a democracy, yes – we are allies.
Et tu, Kevin? Scott? Marco? Lindsey? ….
