Since this is one of our lighter-hearted “Sunday Op-Eds,” we best start out honestly. In terms of the title above? “Yearning for Palin?” Yes, well, that wasn’t universal, for sure, but many commented on how bizarre it is that the GOP is in such freefall, that now, just 13 years later, Sarah Palin looks like a downright normal, fully-formed, even slightly educated person, who could function in government – not as VP, but could at least function as a representative.
Of course, Lauren Boebert is the GOP 2021 edition. She is none of those things and even as a first six-month rep, backbencher, burgerflippin,’ Glock hippin,’ government overthrowin’ co-conspirator, she’s already obtained enough power in the GOP to be a guest speaker at the ultimate “GOP kool kidz” event.
CPAC.
Granted, this is Jr. Varsity CPAC, because it’s the second meeting this year, two CPAC meetings a year is also just soooo “GOP 2021.” This is “CPAC-Dallas.” But still, most first-year GOP Reps would cut off their frontal lob to get up there. Actually, that would give them a substantial advantage. But gigs like that aren’t just handed out. You have to earn your right to the top of the mountain and in “GOP 2021.” That means you have to have made national news for something that embarrassed your parents, you have to be dumber than a panda fight, louder than Zepplin, and rage like an old-school revivalist. Because, other than a few easy million for the organizers, CPAC is a revival for the politically insane, nothing more.
And if one wants politically insane these days, there are only a few names that really extend beyond the GOP standard, one of whom is Boebert, the 2021 version of Sarah Palin. The distinction doesn’t bode well for Boebert’s family, but then again, neither does she. We can’t blame that on the GOP or Palin.
Anyway, on Saturday night live, Boebert did her best SNL cold open, cosplaying Tina Fey, cosplaying Sarah Palin, modernized. She doesn’t want her government benefits, she doesn’t want the government showing up at the door for a “Fauci ouchie,” she wants to be left the hell alone. (So why is she on stage at CPAC?).
But it’s getting out beyond the podium and “dancing” her way through the skit that is the real fresh stuff here and we dearly wish we had more than the 12 second clip below (we will update if found):
Boebert: We’re here to tell government we don’t want your benefits. We don’t want your welfare… pic.twitter.com/Gk8WenGrls

Strange, she’s taken so many government “benefits” this year that she might face some trouble paying them back.
The net was quite amused with the skit and let her and Palin know it, as “KarenBoebert” and “Palin” were both trending this morning:

This woman is a caricature. She’s like a Sarah Palin character in a Coen Brothers movie. https://t.co/3zwiYG0lkI

Sarah Palin is COVID-19.
Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene are Delta Variant 1.

There was our Sunday morning open! It should’ve been SNL last night.
