A video emerged today, smuggled out of some Republican-MAGA Meeting, led by Rick Santorum, in which he essentially laid out his belief that there is a certain wealthy-WASPY crowd of conservative white men that are meant to run the country because if they do not, the majority (The non-wealthy white men…) will destroy everything. The video was racist, elitist, fundamentally un-American, fundamentally fascist, and oh so honest.

It is so honest that Santorum will have a hard time weaseling his way out of this one. Of course, he was fired for the last one, so, take that for what you will. Here is Rick:

Rick Santorum: “We have a bunch of people running around, particularly progressives, who all they want to talk about is let the people’s will be done.” “No! No, no no, we don’t want the people’s will to be done immediately.”

Remember, our constitution is set up to protect who? Minority rights, not majority rights. (He then goes on to talk about the dangers of the passions of the day, as if the “majority” is unfit to determine which ideas need some time to be studied over immediate action.)

Rick, is wrong. Or, mostly wrong. There is a portion of the Constitution set up to protect minority rights and it’s called the Constitutional Amendments and the courts. The Constitution sets out the First Amendment to protect people from the “tyranny of the majority.” Neither the federal or state government can take away your First Amendment rights by vote, by the “majority.” Same with the other Bill of Rights and the 14th.

But there are two other branches that are now set up (they weren’t always) to represent the majority, Article I Congress, and Article II, the Presidency. If these bodies go too far, the courts check them on the Constitution. But they are the most powerful and are chosen by the majority. Unless Rick Santorum has something to do with it.

The country is not set up to protect the minority. Rick Santorum wants to re-set the country back 200 years and have the “right and proper” cultured people to run the country. Tellingly, Santorum went on to talk about HR 1, the voting rights act. The MAGAs want to take us back to Jim Crow

This video is everything Santorum has ever stood for and what McConnell, Graham, Paul, and others stand for. Trump doesn’t know what they’re talking about, he is the least educated man in government. He just wants to win.

But this is dangerous and has Twitter outraged at new levels, with Santorum trending high.

And the response?

Nothing in the Constitution requires the Senate rules to force a super-majority vote, it is a relic from a day when both sides did try to pass legislation.
