Everyone knew this was coming. Trump will not allow 24 hours to go by without denying – totally – a report in which it sounds like Pence got the best of Trump. Keep in mind, these were the days before January 6th, Pence held all the power at the time.
According to Bender’s book, “Frankly, We Did Win This Election,” the incident reportedly took place in and around January 6th (one presumes before) Pence was set to preside over the certification of the 2020 election. Pence’s political committee had just hired Trump’s adviser Corey Lewandowski, which hurt snowflake Trump, who immediately went into an 8-year-old cry that his friend were leaving him, after a clear and significant loss, 89 lawsuits, recourts, etc. and Trump is worried that his team won’t look “loyal to him”? He held up the article in anger, again, to him, this looks like “his team was abandoning him.” Trump reportedly then “crumpled the article and threw it at his vice president,” saying, “So disloyal.” That’s when Pence “lost it,” according to the book.
- “Mr. Pence picked up the article and threw it back at Mr. Trump,” Bender writes. “He leaned toward the president and pointed a finger a few inches from his chest. ‘We walked you through every detail of this,’ Mr. Pence snarled. ‘We did this for you — as a favor. And this is how you respond? You need to get your facts straight.'”
That was yesterday.
You will be shocked to hear that today, Trump is out furiously denying that anything happened. Nothing bad ever happens in Trump’s world, or – at least, nothing bad ever happens without Trump appearing to settle it on top and relegating everyone to their proper roles – beneath him.
We didn’t expect Trump to let go a story that made clear that Pence got the best of that one. No, we were going to get an explanation as to why Pence never showed Trump up. And here it is, from Rawstory: Trump’s statement:
“The story, written by third-rate reporter Michael Bender, that Mike Pence and I had a big fight over Corey Lewandowski, is totally false,” Trump said in a statement Friday morning. “No such fight ever happened, it is fiction as are so many others (sic) stories written in the vast number of books coming out about me.”
We tend to believe the story. The details are a little too precise, too easily double sourced the be made up. But Trump’s world is propaganda. And as we always say, propaganda’s goal isn’t to get you to believe something. A real propaganda program is meant to cause you to give up on the idea of truth. Instead, see layers and layers of agendas. Make the truth “unknowable” because everyone has their own angle. So, you might as well tell the story that makes you look good, as Trump is doing this morning.
Tragic. And Pence knows damn well the degree to which he sold this country out before he polled it together at the end.
