It wouldn’t necessarily take an expert in Trumpology to explain why Ivanka would be in at least as much trouble as Weisselberg. After all, one has to believe that the apple of daddy’s eye (and lord in heaven we hope she’s only an apple and not a peach) would receive far greater compensation benefits than ole’ Allen Weisselberg and that the Trump Org would surely want to save the tax liability on all that juice going to Ivanka, correct?
Correct, says Michael D’Antonio, Trump’s biographer:
The other person who I think is in peril is Ivanka Trump. One of the things that Allen Weisselberg is in trouble for is taking money as a contractor and then claiming self-employed status so that he can get some of the retirement benefits that the tax code allows for self-employed people.
Well, we know that Ivanka Trump got quite significant sums paid to her as nonemployee compensation. That freed the Trump Organization from paying part of her taxes, and it put her in a status that I think the IRS would have lots of questions about. So, these folks don’t know how to play the game straight. I think everything they do is crooked.”
Yes, that one isn’t even close. Unlike cars and tuition stuff, an officer in a corporation owes a fiduciary duty to the corporation. Even if an officer wanted to work as a part-time consultant for another corporation, the officer would be under an obligation to first notify their own company and offer the services to their company. It is beyond absurd to claim that you are a consultant to your own company, and yet that’s exactly what Ivanka did, the reports were out long ago.
So, we suspect that the amount of untaxed compensation paid to Weisselberg would probably equate to the square root of that paid to Ivanka, at least if Dad had anything to do with it. But whatever the amount, it is the pattern that is the problem, and Ivanka’s pattern is a problem.
