Whoever on the left came up with the slogan “Defund the Police” should be banished to making commercials for Republicans. We have never seen a phrase so gift-wrapped as a dream weapon for the right. “Reinvent policing,” “Rethink policing,” “Protective Policing,” all great slogans. Defund the Police almost cost us the presidency and that’s not hyperbole. But at least for this last week, we’ve seen it work against the Republicans.
President Biden’s giant infrastructure package included over $350 billion for local communities to use in helping to police their streets post-COVID. As everyone knows, the Republicans voted against the bill and thus, in effect, voted to defund the police. None other than Fox’s Chris Wallace made the same point this weekend while interviewing a Republican Congresscritter. As noted by Huffpo, Wallace asked Rep. Banks of Indiana:
“Congressman Banks, you voted against that package, against that $350 billion, just like every other Republican in the House and Senate,” Wallace said. “So, can’t you make the argument that it’s you and the Republicans who are defunding the police?”
Banks hemmed and hawed and dodged. Jen Psaki made the exact same point to Peter Doocy, who never seems to learn. In response, Cruz tweeted:
Brazen gaslighting. https://t.co/punJWd9gRT

Bad idea, very bad idea. Ted has had a tough year. Every time he tries to increase his visibility, he steps on a rake and just makes his life worse. As we have often said when reporting on Ted, he may have the most brilliant legal mind in the Senate (or so we’re assured) and yet, stupid is as stupid does, and thus Ted might be the stupidest man in Congress.
Folks on Twitter have become increasingly less tolerant of Cruz, and they weren’t tolerant of him to begin with:
How convenient for you to finally remember this word. Now do “traitor” and “coward”.

Gaslighting is pretending you just had to go to Cancun when there was a major state of emergency, then pretending you were always coming right back.

I’ll take “Things I’ll tweet to avoid talking about my vote against helping the American people” for $1000. https://t.co/l3F0sDUkYt

Ted is pretty good at this game, stupid is as stupid does, and we invite him to play more often. Of course, he is going to continue whether we extend the invitation or not.
