As nearly everyone knows, New York City’s mayoral election is coming this fall and the city tried a different form of primary. Instead of the traditional “Democrat versus Republican” winner take all primary, the city experimented with ranked choices, where voters could make a first, second, third, fourth, right on down, as far as the voter wanted to go, ranking as to who they wanted as mayor. Some low-ranked candidates would be dropped with each election until a candidate emerged with over 50% of the vote.

Done correctly, it is a more democratic form of government, one trying to get away from a system controlled by the parties themselves and big money settling on candidates from each. Given that this was the first run, it wasn’t done perfectly, and opinions run from “some issues” to “disastrous.”

Whether it is just a glitch that can be fixed or disastrous is New York City’s problem. It has nothing to do with elections across the country. But that didn’t stop Don-Don from wailing about his issues. Nothing does. He immediately issued a statement tying his national loss to New York’s troubles. It appears that Trump believes that the United States is incapable of running fair elections except in those cases in which he wins. From Trump’s statement:

Just like in the 2020 Presidential Election, it was announced overnight in New York City that vast irregularities and mistakes were made and that Eric Adams, despite an almost insurmountable lead, may not win the race. The fact is, based on what has happened, nobody will ever know who really won.

There were no “vast irregularities” reported in the national election except assertions from Trump’s camp. Trump’s own cyber-chief said that it was the cleanest, most dependable election ever held.

The Presidential Race was a Scam and a Hoax with numbers and results being found that are massive, shocking, and determinative. Watch the mess you are about to see in New York City, it will go on forever. They should close the books and do it all over again, the old-fashioned way, when we had results that were accurate and meaningful.

Ah, yes. The man who always believes that the second or “do over” election will always be done better than the first, because – perhaps – his buddies across the country, and perhaps overseas, will know that they need to bump numbers up even higher. We were always a bit wary of the fact that Trump threaded the needle in 2016 (barely, 70,000 votes across three states), through the exact same states that Manafort handed the Russian “businessman” (intelligence) as key states, ones that Trump eventually won. There is exactly no proof that such a thing happened. It is just something we’ve always pondered.

Perhaps we’re paranoid. We do know that Trump damn well wants a second election, one that he seems to believe he’s sure to win (Why?). It is just as likely that he’d lose a second election by a greater margin than in November. A lot has happened since then. And yet he seems so confident. Is that not odd?

But more to the point, Trump is doing everything he can to sap Americans’ faith in democracy and our elections which form the basis of our government. It is why he continues to be relevant, and deserves intense coverage. This man is not done damaging this country.
